Teeth Extractions in
Inverness, Florida

Although it is always our goal to save our patients’ permanent teeth, extractions are sometimes necessary for preserving one’s oral health. This type of treatment is often provided when a tooth is irreparably damaged or if a tooth is causing severe problems for the health of other teeth.

Most patients find that a tooth extraction is a relatively quick and painless procedure. When necessary, we can use sedation to help ensure that patients remain as comfortable as possible. The extraction itself is usually very fast. The patient should feel little-to-no pain during this time, but they may experience a sensation of pressure in the immediate area.

Once the tooth is removed, in order to control any bleeding, we will instruct the patient to bite down on a gauze pad for 30 to 45 minutes. This will allow a blood clot to form in the area. The patient must then be very careful not to disturb the blood clot. We advise patients to avoid using a straw, participating in intense exercise, smoking and consuming any drugs or alcohol for at least 24 hours following a tooth extraction.

The complete recovery process for a tooth extraction takes a few days. Once at home, an ice pack can be used on the outer cheek to reduce swelling. Once the swelling has gone down, a warm compress can be applied to the area for comfort. A patient may also use warm salt water rinses to help keep the area clean. Tough and chewy foods should be avoided during recovery, as they may cause discomfort for the patient.

Gulf Coast Dental Associates also conducts wisdom teeth removal procedures. A person’s wisdom teeth will usually appear when they are in their late teens or early twenties. These teeth almost always need to be removed from the mouth because of the severe angle at which they grow and because there is very little space available for them. By removing these teeth early, future dental issues can be prevented.

Cosmetic dentistry has helped countless patients improve their smiles. A visit to Gulf Coast Dental Associates is the first step. Please call us at (352) 344-4747 to schedule an appointment.
